Is Care Outside of the Country Covered?

Most long term care insurance policies do not cover care out of the U.S., or limit the benefit amount and duration. This will be spelled out clearly in your policy.

Some policies DO cover care outside the U.S.

Still others cover care within North America uniformly, so that care inside the United States, in Canada and/or Mexico is all covered at the same level.

Note that if you are receiving care from caregivers who may not provide documentation in English, you may be responsible for having forms translated for the insurance company.

All of the above information relates to reimbursement policies, by far the most popular long term care insurance policy. A cash benefit policy pays a benefit (once you have met the satisfying benefit triggers related to either ADL loss or cognitive impairment) regardless of where your care is received
